Sloth Trading LLC

Terms of Use

Plain English. Please read it once; it is short.

These terms cover what Aftermark is, what it is not, and what you are responsible for. Aftermark is published by Sloth Trading LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("we", "us"). A licence file covering what you may and may not do with the software itself is included with the download; both apply.

1. This is not investment advice

Aftermark is a record-keeping and analysis tool. It helps you write down what you traded and look at what it cost you.

It does not tell you what to buy or sell. Nothing it shows is a recommendation, a solicitation, or personalized financial advice. It does not know your goals, your tax situation or how much you can afford to lose.

We are not your broker, your adviser or your fiduciary. Nobody involved in Aftermark is a licensed investment adviser acting for you.

Any number the software produces — a suggested size, a gains ladder, a post-mortem, a mistake tally — is arithmetic on inputs you gave it. It is a starting point for your own thinking, not a decision. Every trading decision is yours. If you want advice, talk to a licensed professional.

2. No warranty

The software is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. That includes the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.

We do not promise it is free of bugs, that it will keep running, or that any figure it displays is correct.

Some places do not allow all of these exclusions. If yours is one, the parts that are not allowed do not apply to you.

3. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising out of the software. That includes, explicitly:

That applies whether the claim is in contract, negligence or anything else, and even if we were told the loss was possible.

Our total liability is capped at the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

4. Data can be wrong, and can look fresh when it isn't

Prices, quotes, greeks, fundamentals and news come from third-party sources — your broker, your data provider, public filings. We do not produce that data and we cannot vouch for it.

It may be delayed, stale, incomplete, revised later, or simply wrong. Feeds go down. Symbols get remapped. A free tier may not cover options at all.

Some numbers are derived, not quoted. Implied volatility is back-solved from an option's mark, and delta and theta are computed from that. A stale mark therefore produces stale greeks — and they look exactly as confident on screen as live ones. Aftermark shows the age of a quote wherever it can, precisely because of this. Read the age before you trust the row.

You are responsible for verifying any number against your broker before you act on it. Treat Aftermark as a second opinion on your own record, never as the source of truth for a live market.

5. You bring your own API credentials

Aftermark ships with no API keys and no market data. Every connection uses credentials you obtain, in your name, from the provider.

That means you are the provider's customer, not us. Your use of each provider is governed by that provider's own terms, and it is your job to read them and stay inside them. If you exceed a rate limit or breach a term, that is between you and them.

Two specific ones, because they catch people out:

If you are using Aftermark for a business — a fund, an LLC, a firm, anything that is not you personally — you need the appropriate paid plan from that provider. We cannot grant it and getting it is your responsibility.

Third-party terms change. Check the current version on the provider's own site; do not rely on this page being up to date.

We do not redistribute anyone's market data. The product is the pipeline, not the data.

6. The software never places an order

Aftermark does not place, modify or cancel orders. It does not move money. It cannot trade on your behalf. Broker access is read-only in design: it reads positions and transactions.

On startup, Aftermark scans its own shipped code for any order-placing path and refuses to run if it finds one.

If any future version ever gains the ability to send an order, it will say so loudly and it will be off by default.

7. Your credentials are yours to protect

Your API keys and tokens live in a configuration file on your own machine. Aftermark does not transmit them anywhere except to the provider they belong to.

You are responsible for keeping them safe: do not commit them to a public repository, do not paste them into screenshots or chat, rotate a key immediately if you think it leaked, and only run Aftermark on machines you control. It binds to your own computer and is meant to stay there. If you expose it to a network, that is your risk.

We cannot recover, reset or revoke your keys. Only the provider can.

8. Your data stays with you

Your trades, notes and exports are stored as files on your machine. There is no account, no cloud sync and no telemetry. We never receive your journal.

The flip side: there is no backup either. If you delete the folder, or the disk fails, it is gone. Back it up yourself.

9. Optional data sources

Aftermark's own dashboard works with no external connection at all. Beyond that, some optional features fetch from third parties, and you turn those on yourself.

The two collectors that read public filings from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ship disabled and require you to enable them and supply a contact email, as that source requires. Aftermark reports which collectors are enabled, what host each one contacts, and under whose terms.

Two optional helper scripts, which you run by hand rather than the program running for you, fetch benchmark and earnings data from Yahoo Finance. One of them sends the ticker symbols found in your positions file. Neither runs unless you run it.

10. Taxes and regulation

Aftermark is not tax software. Its figures — cost basis, realized profit and loss, holding periods — are for your review, not for filing. It does not detect wash sales. Rules like wash sales, assignment handling and broker adjustments can make your official statement differ from what Aftermark shows.

Your broker's statements and your 1099 are the record that counts. Use a tax professional.

You are also responsible for following the rules that apply to you, including those of your employer, your broker and your regulator.

11. Refunds

See the refund policy.

12. Changes

These terms may change in a later version of the software. The version that ships with your copy is the one that applies to that copy. Continuing to use a newer version means accepting the terms that came with it.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

14. Notices

Formal notices to us go to support@slothtrading.com. Notices to you go to the address or email you last provided to us.
