Lot-detail export
A CSV shaped like your broker's own realized gain/loss lot detail, for handing to whoever prepares your taxes.
How your trades get in
From a CSV, with no accounts and no API keys. Export the activity file your broker already gives you, drop it in, and the journal works. This path needs no internet connection and no signup of any kind.
Or connect your own Charles Schwab developer application. Aftermark ships with no credentials. If you want positions and realized trades pulled in automatically, you register your own application with Schwab and put your own keys in your own configuration file. You are Schwab's customer, not ours.
Worth knowing before you buy: Schwab expires that connection every 7 days, so it needs a roughly 30-second re-sign-in each week. That is Schwab's rule and we cannot change it. Aftermark shows you how many days are left and gives you a one-click reconnect, but the weekly step is real and it is not going away. If that would annoy you, use the CSV path — it has no such limit.
It cannot place an order
Aftermark does not place, modify or cancel orders, and it cannot move money. This is not a promise on a marketing page — it is enforced in the program. On every startup it scans its own shipped code for any order-placing path and refuses to run if it finds one.
What stays on your machine
Your trades, notes and exports are files on your own disk. There is no account to create, no cloud to sync to, and no telemetry. We never receive your journal, and we operate no server that Aftermark connects to.
The dashboard loads no third-party fonts, scripts, analytics or tracking pixels — every asset it uses is local. With no keys configured, it opens no outbound connection at all. When you do configure a data provider, the request goes directly from your computer to that provider, under your own account with them.
The flip side, said plainly: there is no backup either. If you delete the folder or the disk fails, it is gone. Back it up yourself.
What it deliberately does not do
Most of the cost of a trading tool is discovering its limits after you have paid. Here are ours, up front.
- It does not detect wash sales, and it is not tax software. The lot-detail export is for your review and for your tax preparer — your broker's statements and your 1099 are the record that counts.
- It does not tell you what to buy or sell. Nothing it shows is a recommendation or advice. Every number it produces is arithmetic on inputs you gave it.
- It does not include market data. Live quotes and news require your own API key from a provider you sign up with directly, under that provider's terms.
- It has no mobile app and no hosted version.
